Gorse Hill Primary School

The Project

Gorse Hill Primary School in Stretford, England, required a single-sourced solution to replace its flat and pitched roofs. The old roof had suffered significant damage, some from vandalism and some from normal wear and tear. The school tapped local contractor Connolly Ltd to handle the roof repair and installation, which put its trust in IKO®’s roofing system. 

Darren Holding, Senior Contracts Manager at Connolly Ltd, was very impressed with the composite roof tile. “It’s a brilliant product, second to none when it comes to schools or buildings with accessible roofs. The Challenge

The roof’s existing waterproofing had failed due to a previous poor installation, the result of which saturated the insulation below the exterior roofing. Insulation had to be replaced and a new waterproofing system would have to be installed that was optimized for both the pitched and flat sections of the roof.

The Solution

New high-performance solutions were specified that included a range of IKO roofing waterproofing systems to protect both the flat and pitched roofing areas of the building. IKOslate, a robust and durable tile, was specified for the pitched roof due to vandalism and the fragility of the current system, whereas a tapered scheme was required for the flat roofing — IKO Ultra Prevent — alongside a cold-applied liquid solution (IKO Polimar™) for the more intricate details.
